It is with great sadness, that we share the news of the death of Isabel “Lefty” Alvarez at the age of 88. She passed away June 6, 2022, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Born in Havana, Cuba, Isabel was one of several Cuban-born young women recruited to play in the AAGPBL. She began her AAGPBL career in 1949 and played on the Touring Team and five different teams during her tenure. She was both a pitcher and outfielder. She played for the Chicago Colleens, Battle Creek Belles, Ft. Wayne Daisies, Kalamazoo Lassies, and Gr. Rapids Chicks.

After completing her playing career in 1954, she made Ft. Wayne her home. Isabel made her last public appearance on May 21 when the Ft. Wayne TinCaps honored the Ft. Wayne Daisies. She was always up for going to a baseball game.
