Belles Secure Second, Best Peaches, 5-1
SARASOTA, FL, November 19—In a game to determine second place in the second American Girls Baseball Classic, the Belles outscored the Peaches, 5-1, to secure their spot.
Tournament rules dictated that each team play each other once, unless there were two 2-0 teams. In the event of a tie, the first tiebreaker was head-to-head matchups. Because these two teams had lost to the 2-0 Blue Sox, there was no way for them to supplant the eventual champs.
Elise Berger started on the bump for the Belles and allowed a run on a hit in two innings before giving way to Katie Reynolds, who tossed five innings of two-hit ball in picking up the win.
The Belles plated a pair in the second and fourth, with Kaija Bazzano driving in two; her fourth-inning single made it 4-1. Bazzano also played stellar defense at third base for the Belles. Sabrina Robinson and Sarah Edwards each contributed two hits for the Belles.
Jacqui Reynolds, Celicia Wilken, and Delika Dumulong all had hits for the Peaches, with Dumulong driving in their lone run.
